Egypt Visa Fees Remain Unchanged Despite New Tax Provision

Egypt has introduced a legal framework that permits an additional tax of up to USD 20 on visa and consular services. Despite this, the current visa fees remain unchanged. Travellers still pay USD 25 for a single-entry visa and USD 60 for a multiple-entry visa, whether obtained on arrival, at a diplomatic mission, or through the online e-Visa system.

Confusion Following Early Reports

Several recent reports incorrectly suggested that the visa fee had increased to USD 45, creating uncertainty among travellers. In practice, no such change has been implemented, and no official announcement has confirmed any adjustment to the existing fees.

Interpretation Challenges

Although the law allows a tax of up to USD 20, it does not state how this amount would be applied. It remains unclear whether it would be added to the current fee, replace part of it, or simply serve as a maximum limit with no obligation to enforce it. This lack of clarity has contributed to confusion, even though the actual fees remain stable.

Ongoing Debate Over Potential Fee Increases

The approval of the draft law earlier in November sparked concerns within the tourism sector about a possible rise in visa costs. Many feared that higher fees could discourage visitors and slow the industry’s recovery.

Recommendation for Travellers

As the situation may change, travellers should:

  • Check the latest visa fees and rules through official sources such as the Egyptian immigration website or a nearby diplomatic mission.
  • Travellers applying online can also refer to the Egypt e-Visa portal for updates.

Until clear guidance is issued, Egypt’s visa fees remain unchanged. Travellers are advised to stay updated as further details may be announced.
